“I learned a lot both on and off the court during my high school years from my wonderful teachers and coaches. The friends I made in high school I’m still very close with today,” said Mike.
What teacher or coach inspired you?
“Steve Jenkins was my high school basketball coach and he demanded maximum effort, commitment, integrity, teamwork and sportsmanship. He was teaching us life lessons and preparing us for adulthood.”
What do you think can help sustain our mission long term?
“The support of our residents and community partners are paramount. While we seek grants and corporate sponsorships, it’s important for the BEF to have grass roots support. By support I mean not only monetary donations (no matter how big or small) but support by attending our events and spreading the word about the BEF’s efforts along with the great things that the Bloomfield Public School System has to offer our children.”
What makes our mission meaningful to you?
“I always wanted to give back to our community and in particular, our high school. My parents always volunteered for school activities, coaching sports and within the community. Even before having a family of my own I wanted to get involved, but now seeing the direct impact the BEF has on our students, including my children, it is very rewarding.”
